Women's Hockey falls to Badgers in exhibition matchup

MADISON, Wis. (blugolds.com) – The No. 4-ranked Division III University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's hockey team faced off in an exhibition match up against No. 1-ranked Division I University of Wisconsin-Madison on Monday night. Wisconsin would dominate Eau Claire with a 15-1 victory.

In the first period Wisconsin would be the first to tally a goal at 3:24 and would maintain majority of possession in the first period. The Badgers possessive style of play would pay off in the first with seven goals to take a 7-0 advantage into the second period.

Wisconsin would continue their scoring streak in the second period with another six goals to extend the lead heading into the final frame.

In the third, Eau Claire would break past the Badger goalie with a goal by Samantha Scherling (Jr.-Rogers, MN) at 7:05 with the assist from Sadie Long (Fr.-Farmington, MN). This would be Scherling's third goal of the season. The Badgers would come back and score two final goals, giving Wisconsin the 15-1 win.

Kylah Krause (Jr.-Belleville, IL/East) and Josie Mathison (So.-Tomah, WI) would split time in net for the Blugolds. Krause tallied 27 saves in 29:23 while Mathison recorded 19 in 30:37.

Eau Claire (14-2-0, 3-0-0) travel to UW-Superior on Thursday, January 13th for a 7 PM puck drop.
