Women's Hockey skates past Hamline

ST. PAUL, Minn. (blugolds.com) – The #2 University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's hockey team traveled to face off against Minnesota opponent Hamline University on Tuesday night and would come home with a 4-1 victory.

Eau Claire would come out early in the first period with Taylar Meier (So.-River Falls, WI/Columbine (CO)) scoring at 1:19 with assists coming from Eden Gruber (So.-Wausau, WI/West) and Hattie Verstegen (So.-Oshkosh, WI/North). The Blugolds would maintain control of the period playing with an aggressive offense. The offensive play would pay off with a second goal at 13:44 from Hallie Sheridan (Jr.-Fergus Falls, MN). She would be assisted by Bree Osborne (Sr.-West St. Paul, MN/Cretin-Derham Hall) and Samantha Scherling (Jr.-Rogers, MN).

Just as quick as the Blugolds were in the first period the Pipers would score early in the second period to close in on Eau Claire's lead. The Blugolds would continue to fight for another goal but the score remained 2-1 heading into the final period.

Eau Claire and Hamline would go into the third period evenly matched and both goalies making huge saves. But the Blugolds would not be denied as Eau Claire would come up big with a shorthanded goal from Addie Young (Sr.-Superior, WI) at 18:34 bringing the score to 3-1. The Blugolds would cap the night off with an empty net goal from Sheridan at 18:54 for the 4-1 win.

Stephanie Martin (Sr.- Yorktown, VA/Tabb) would come up big with 25 saves to pick up her eighth win in net.

Next up for the Blugolds (11-0-0, 3-0-0) will be a trip to Moorhead, Minn., for back-to-back games against Concordia-Moorhead. Their first matchup is Friday, December 10th for a 7 PM puck drop with game two on Saturday, December 11th at 2 PM.
