Women's Hockey dominates on home ice, taking down Northland, 10-0

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (blugolds.com) – The No. 3 University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's hockey hosted Northland College on Thursday night to open Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) play. Eau Claire would continue their winning streak, beating Northland with a clean 10 to 0 victory.

Eau Claire wouldn't take long to put a tally on the board with a goal at 2:38 from Addie Young (Sr.-Superior, WI/Superior) with assists from Dehli Heikes (Jr.-Hermantown, MN/Hermantown) and Sadie Long (Fr.-Farmington, MN/Farmington). The Blugolds would control the first half with the second goal of the night coming from Hanna Zavoral (Sr.-St. Paul, MN/Highland Park) unassisted at 14:05. The scoring wouldn't end there, Hallie Sheridan (Jr.-Fergus Falls, MN/Fergus Falls) would pass to Emma Peterson (Sr.-Superior, WI/Superior) for the Blugolds third goal of the night, giving them the 3 to 0 lead at the end of the first period.

Eau Claire would continue to put the pressure on Northland, coming out with a powerplay goal at 4:08 from Jordyn McAlpine (Jr.-Stillwater, MN/Mahtomedi). Only two minutes later Victoria Nelson (Jr.-Appleton, WI/Kimberly) and Taylar Meier (So.-River Falls, WI/Columbine (CO)) would combine for the Blugolds 5th goal of the night. Eau Claire would finish off the second period with a goal from Long at 12:48 extending their lead to 6 to 0. Young and McAlpine would earn assists on the goal.

Sheridan kept the scoring going in the third, scoring at the 2:30 mark thanks to assists from Samantha Scherling (Jr.- Rogers, MN) and Danielle Slominski (Jr. – Becker, MN/Princeton).

Sheridan would later find Dehli Heikes (Jr. – Hermantown, MN) in front of the net on a powerplay and Heikes would bury it for the eighth goal of the night.

Another powerplay would result in another goal thanks to some crisp passing. Zavoral would get credit for the goal with assists to Young and Peterson.

Peterson would score again off another pass from Sheridan late in the third, her second goal of the night and Sheridan's third assist.

Eau Claire would out-shoot Northland 60-5 on the night and won 42 faceoffs to Northland's 16.

Kylah Krause (Jr.-Belleville, IL/Belleville East) would have a clean sheet in the net, stopping all 5 shots she faced, earning the team the season's second shutout.

The Blugolds (5-0-0, 1-0-0) will return to home ice in Saturday as they host UW-Superior. Puck drop is slated for 2 p.m.
