EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's hockey team was back in action on Saturday as they hosted Saint Benedict University (Minn.). After defeating the Bennies 4-2 the night before, the Blugolds lost no momentum on home ice and skated to a 5-1 victory.
Taylar Meier (So. – River Falls, WI/Columbine) opened the scoring just under four minutes into the contest for a Blugold lead that never wavered. Eden Gruber (So. - Wausau, WI/West) and Hattie Verstegen (So. - Oshkosh, WI/North) received assists on the goal that put Eau Claire in the driver's seat. At the halfway mark of the same period, Hallie Sheridan (Jr. - Fergus Falls, MN) capitalized on her first goal of the season to increase the lead to 2-0.
The momentum continued through the remaining two periods as Meier found the back of the net a second time at 7:40 of the middle period. Emma Peterson (Sr. - Superior, WI) sealed the deal with a powerplay goal in the third to give UWEC their second win of the season.
Kylah Krause (Jr. - Belleview, IL/East) stopped 13 of the 14 shots she faced in her first win of the season.
The Blugolds will be back at home on Saturday, November 6th when they host Marian University (Wis.).
