Strand named WIAC Co-Coach of the Year

MADISON, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) office announced the 2021 All-WIAC women's hockey awards on Monday. Head Coach Erik Strand was named Co-Coach of the Year and five Blugold athletes received honors.

Strand secured the coaching award for the second straight season and third time in his career after leading the Blugolds to a 9-3-1 record. 

Ella Ierino (Jr. - Dultuh, MN) was named All-WIAC first team for the second time in her career (2020). Ierino propelled the Blugold offense from the blue line and finished the year tied for 5th in the WIAC for points (10) and led all WIAC defensemen with seven goals. 

Bree Osborne (Sr. - West St. Paul, MN/Cretin Derham Hall) was awarded All-WIAC first team as well. Osborne was +10 on the season and tallied 6 assists, the most by any Blugold defensemen.

Emma Peterson (Sr. - Superior, WI) also earned All-WIAC first team after she led the Blugolds with 11 points (7G, 4A) on the year. Peterson registered the 4th most points in the WIAC (11) and was two goals shy of her season record. 

Stephanie Martin (Jr. - Yorktown, VA/Tabb) earned All-WIAC honorable mention for her first conference award of her Blugold career. With five wins and eight games played, Martin held the best save percentage in the WIAC, 93.5%.

Samantha Scherling (So. - Rogers, MN) had a career year and also earned All-WIAC Honorable Mention for the first time in her career. With three goals and seven assists, Scherling's offensive explosion helped the Blugolds reach 41 total team goals.

Bree Osborne was also named to the All-Sportsmanship Team.
