Women's Hockey Beats St. Norbert After Strong Second Period

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's hockey team held off the Green Knights of St. Norbert College to win 4-3 at Hobbs Ice Center today.

The Blugold victory came with a four-goal second period that led to a 4-2 lead in which the Green Knights could not come back from.

Down 2-0, Emily Larson (Jr.-Bemidji, Minn.) started the scoring off for the Blugolds with an unassisted goal in the 10th minute of the second period.  Just two minutes and 20 seconds later, Emily Haluska (Sr.-Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH) kept the Blugolds hot with a second goal to tie the game at two.

After assisting on the Haluska goal, both Sam Knutson (So.-North St. Paul, Minn.) and Hadley Cookson (Fr.-Shorewood, Minn./Minnetonka) found the back of the net in the second period.  Both players recorded one assist for the match, with Dani Kerr (Sr.-Little Canada, Minn./Roseville) and Julia Osowski (Fr.-Princeton, Minn.) also recording assists for the Blugolds.

The Blugolds' goalkeeper Paige Turner (Fr.-Iron River, Wis./Duluth East) continued her strong play after being named NCHA Player of the Week earlier in the season.  Turner played the full game and recorded 31 saves on St. Norbert's 34 shots.

Eau Claire is now 2-5-2 overall and 2-3-2 in the NCHA. The Green Knights drop to 3-2-2 on the season and 2-1-1 in the conference.

The Blugolds will look to record a weekend sweep when they face-off against St. Norbert again tomorrow at Hobbs Ice Center in Eau Claire at 2p.m.
