Women's Golf Finishes Strong at DII Tournament

MARSHALL, Minn. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's golf team had a strong showing on the final day of the NCAA Division II Southwest Minnesota State University Mustang Invitational, taking second place at Marshall Golf Club today.

With a second round score of 307, the second lowest total of the day, the Blugolds finished with 622 strokes to claim second. Augustana College (S.D.), an NCAA Division II opponent, won the invite with 602 strokes while Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) was third with 626.

The Blugolds' Catherine Wagner (Jr.-Austin, Minn.) claimed medalist honors as she finished with 144 strokes, even for the tournament. She shot a 70 today, the lowest total of the invite, two under par.

Sara Mattes (Sr.-La Crosse, Wis./Central) also had a solid finish, taking fourth place overall. She finished with 150 strokes.

Maggie Lattery (Sr.-Lake Nebagamon, Wis./Northwestern) tied for 21st with 163, Kate Engler (Fr.-Beloit, Wis./F.J. Turner) tied for 29th with 165 and Emily Swift (Sr.-Onalaska, Wis.) finished with 166 strokes to tie for 34th.

The Blugolds now turn their attention to the WIAC Championships, where they will try and claim their third consecutive title. The three-day tournament, at Bull's Eye Country Club in Wisconsin Rapids, will begin October 7.
