Essen was also a First Team All-WIAC selection after finishing second on the team in points and rebounds per game. She eclipsed 20 points on three separate occasions in 2021, including 26 in the win over UW-River Falls. She was also named to the WIAC All-Defensive Team.

At season's end the senior was also honored with two teams awards for the season, Team Most Valuable Player and Team Defensive Player of the Year.

Eau Claire finished the shortened 2021 season 8-2 overall and advanced to the semifinals of the WIAC Championships.

This is the 20th year D3hoops.com has named an All-Region team and this year's All-America team will be the 24th annual All-American selections. The D3hoops.com All-American teams, along with those of the respective coaches' associations, are the only ones recognized in the NCAA record book.

Players whose teams played five or more games (not exhibitions) were eligible for consideration. Because of the lack of participating teams in some regions, the East and Northeast Regions were combined into one All-Region team, and the Atlantic and Middle Atlantic were combined as well.
