MADISON, Wis. (blugolds.com) — University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire softball player Megan Maruna (Sr. - Oswego, Ill.) was named a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Kwik Trip Athlete of the Week for May 1-7. It is the second week in a row that Maruna has been named the conference's position player of the week.
Maruna hit .583 with four extra-base hits and four RBI across four pivotal games during the week. She scored four runs and had a pair of three-hit games for the Blugolds. Maruna hit two doubles and two triples. She went 3-for-4 with a double, triple and three RBI against UW-River Falls on May 3. She hit a walk-off double to win the first game, and scored the game-winning run in walk-off fashion in game two against the Falcons. Maruna also went 3-for-3 with a double, triple, RBI and three runs scored against UW-La Crosse on May 4. Maruna's performances helped the Blugolds earn three crucial victories in must-win games to clinch a spot in the WIAC Tournament.
