Blugolds earn All-WIAC honors

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The 2021 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Softball All-WIAC awards were announced Tuesday, with several Blugolds collecting honors.

Earning spots on the First Team were Sadie Erickson (Fr. – St. Paul, MN/North) and Abbey Place (Sr. – Naperville, IL/Central).

Erickson led the WIAC with a .481 batting average, breaking the school single-season record which was previously set by Casey Leisgang in 2008 (.477). The sophomore also led the conference in slugging percentage (.822), on base percentage (.525), runs scored (41), hits (62), total bases (106) and stolen bases (18). She was also named NFCA All-Region.

Place was second in the WIAC in RBIs (40) and tied for third in the conference in hits (52) and total bases (83). The senior was second on the team in batting average (.391) and homeruns (6) and tied Erickson for doubles (11).

Seniors Mikayla McEnery (Sr. – Savage, MN/Prior Lake), Bailee Sillman (Sr. – Chippewa Falls, WI/Chi-Hi) and Katelyn Yute (Sr. – North Prairie, WI/Kettle Moraine) were all named to All-WIAC Honorable Mention.

McEnery hit .317 with 26 hits this season while scoring 21 runs and knocking in nine in 29 games played.

Sillman tallied a batting average of .358 with five homeruns, 25 RBIs and scored 29 runs for the Blugolds while having a .966 fielding percentage playing both infield and outfield throughout the season.

Yute stole 12 bases and scored 19 runs while hitting .345 for Eau Claire and had an on base percentage of .371.

In addition, pitcher Morgan Sivak (Sr. – Oconomowoc, WI) was named to the All-Sportsmanship Team. Sivak finished the year 9-7 and threw five complete games.

The Blugolds finished the season 22-17 overall and 8-6 in the WIAC.
