WHITEWATER, Wis. (blugolds.com) - The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire softball team dropped their Saturday doubleheader with UW-Whitewater, 4-1 and 3-0.

Sadie Erickson (So.-Norwood Young America, MN/Central) kicked off game one with a double for the Blugolds. She would advance to third off a wild pitch and then scored off a sacrifice fly from Abbey Place (Sr.-Naperville, IL/Central).

Whitewater scored runs in the first, second and third innings to take a 4-1 lead. Eau Claire had several opportunities for a comeback but left a total of three runners on base.

Eau Claire finished with five hits, two coming from Erickson and Megan Maruna (So.-Oswego, IL). Morgan Sivak (Sr.-Oconomowoc, WI) got the start at pitcher and went the whole six innings.

In the second game, the Blugold offense struggled to get things going. They would finish with three hits but weren't able to convert them into runs.

Maruna led the team in the second game with a pair of hits, including a triple in the fourth. The other hit came from Erickson, a single in the second inning.

Abbey Cook (So. – Woodbury, MN/East Ridge) was the starting pitcher in the second game and went 3.1 innings, with Abbey Cook (So. – Woodbury, MN/East Ridge) coming on in relief.

The Blugolds will be on the road again this upcoming Tuesday for a series with UW-La Crosse, a team they beat in their earlier doubleheader in mid-April. Follow the action on Blugold Game Day.
