RIVER FALLS, Wis. (blugolds.com) - The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire softball team swept UW-River Falls in their Wednesday afternoon doubleheader, 3-2 and 13-5.

Game 1 Box Score | Game 2 Box Score

Game one began with three scoreless innings before River Falls notched a run in the fourth inning. Eau Claire responded with a three-run effort an inning later with RBIs coming from Abbey Place (Sr.-Naperville, IL/Central) and Sadie Erickson (So.-Norwood Young America, MN/Central).

The Falcons added one more run, but the Blugolds held them off for the 3-2 victory. They finished with just four hits, but they came in timely moments of the game.

Both offenses began game two slowly again before the Blugolds scored in the top of the fourth. Erickson reached base with a single and advanced into scoring position on a stolen base. She scored off an RBI from Katelyn Yute (North Prairie, WI/Kettle Moraine), which also advanced Shaelyn Talley (Wausau, WI/West) to third base. Talley would then reach home off a sacrifice bunt by Taylor Nelson (Sr.-Wisconsin Rapids, WI/Assumption).

River Falls came back in the bottom-half of the inning and tied things up at two, but Eau Claire answered with three more runs in inning five. Bailee Sillman (Sr.-Chippewa Falls, WI/Chi-Hi) got the Blugolds going with a solo home run. Following a double from Megan Maruna (So.-Oswego, IL), Place also sent one over the fence for a two-run shot.

Following another two runs from the Falcons, Eau Claire added important insurance in the seventh. They added eight runs, three of which came off a home run from Erickson. In total, the Blugolds managed eight hits in the inning, coming from nearly every spot in their lineup.

Eau Claire will once again be on the road over the weekend, squaring off against UW-Whitewater on Saturday, with first pitch times at 2 and 4 PM.
