EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire softball team was back in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) action on Saturday, this time hosting UW-River Falls. The Blugolds dropped game one 8-4 before winning 8-0 in six innings in game two.

In game one, the Falcons tallied four runs in the second and four more in the fourth inning to take an 8-0 lead. The Blugolds rallied for two runs in the fifth and two more in the seventh but it would not be enough as they dropped their first WIAC game of the season.

Katelyn Yute (Sr. – North Prairie, WI/Kettle Moraine) led the Blugold offense, accounting for two of the team's eight hits. Morgan Sivak (Sr. – Oconomowoc, WI) took the loss and drops to 5-3 on the season.

Eau Claire got the bats rolling in game two, scoring once in the first and four in the second. They would tally another in the fourth to take a 6-0 lead heading into the fifth. In the sixth, Sadie Erickson (Fr. – St. Paul, MN/North) tripled to score the seventh run and would score herself on an Abbey Place (Sr. – Naperville, IL/Central) single to end the game.

Yute, Erickson, Ellie Decker (Jr. – Germantown, WI) and Bailee Sillman (Sr. – Chippewa Falls, WI/Chi-Hi) would all collect multiple hits in the game, with Erickson going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBIs, Decker 2-for-2 and Yute and Sillman finishing 2-for-3.

The Blugolds would out-hit the Falcons 13-2 while Madi Zerr (So. – Bristol, WI/Wilmot Union) would get the complete game shutout, striking out three in six innings of work to improve to 5-4 on the season.

Eau Claire (14-8, 3-1 WIAC) will be back in action on Wednesday when they host UW-La Crosse (7-4, 3-0 WIAC) at Bollinger Field. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m. Follow the action on Blugold Game Day.
