Blugolds earn split with Tommies

ST. PAUL (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire softball team earned another split on Monday, defeating the University of St. Thomas 6-0 in game one and falling by a score of 7-0 in game two.

In game one, the Blugolds got on the board early with two runs in the second and third innings and would tack on insurance runs in the fourth and fifth on their way to securing their 10th win of the season.

Several Eau Claire runs were via the long ball, with Sadie Erickson (Fr. – St. Paul, MN/North), Meghan Witt (Jr. – Portage, WI) and Maria Back (Jr. – Rosemount, MN) all hitting homeruns in the win. The trio would all go 2-for-3 with Back leading the team with two RBIs.

Morgan Sivak (Sr. – Oconomowoc, WI) earned the complete-game shutout, scattering five hits and striking out four to improve to 4-1 on the season.

The Blugold bats cooled in game two, with Eau Claire only tallying two hits as a team. Madi Zerr (So. – Bristol, WI/Wilmot Union) took the loss on the mound, giving up four runs (one earned) on two hits in three innings.

Eau Claire (10-6) will be back on the road Thursday when they travel to Decorah, Iowa to take on Luther College. Follow the action on Blugold Game Day.
