Blugolds drop pair against Bennies

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. (blugolds.com) - The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire softball team dropped their series against Saint Benedict (Minn.) on Saturday afternoon, 5-3 and 9-1 (6 innings).

In game one Eau Claire struck first, scoring a pair of runs in the top of the third. Saint Benedict countered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the inning, and their three runs in the sixth secured the win.

Morgan Sivak (Sr.- Oconomowoc, WI) got the start at pitcher for UWEC and pitched five innings. She allowed just two hits against the 20 batters she faced.

Bailee Sillman (Sr.-Chippewa Falls, WI/Chi-Hi) and Abbey Place (Sr.-Naperville, IL/Central) led the Blugolds with two hits each. Sillman also had the lone UWEC home run in the opener.

Eau Claire again took the initial lead in the second game, with Maria Back (Jr.-Rosemount, MN) scoring Sillman in the first inning. Despite five hits in total, the Blugolds didn't add any more runs in the game.

The results leave Eau Claire now 9-5 on the 2021 season. They will be on the road again this Monday, traveling to St. Thomas (Minn.). The first pitches for the doubleheader will be at 2 and 4 PM.
