Softball sweeps Northwestern, improves to 9-3

ST. PAUL, Minn. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire picked up two road wins on Thursday, defeating the University of Northwestern-St. Paul by scores of 14-2 (5 innings) and 11-6.

The Blugolds tallied 22 hits on the day, four of which were homeruns to bring the season total to 17.

In game one, Eau Claire scored early and often, scoring three runs in the first, two in the second, seven in the third and two in the fifth to earn the run-rule win. Sadie Erickson (Fr. – St. Paul, MN/North), Abbey Place (Sr. – Naperville, IL/Central) and Katelyn Yute (Sr. – North Prairie, WI/Kettle Moraine) all recorded two hits while Bailee Sillman (Sr. – Chippewa Falls, WI/Chi-Hi) recorded her second long ball of the season.

Abbey Cook (So. – Woodbury, MN/East Ridge) earned the win in the circle, scattering three hits in three innings. The right-hander surrendered just one run while striking out three.

In game two, the Blugolds scored in five of the seven innings en route to an 11-6 win. Maria Back (Jr. – Rosemount, MN) belted two homeruns for Eau Claire with Ellie Decker (Jr. – Germantown, WI) hitting her first career homer while going 2-for-3 with three runs scored.  

Back finished the day 3-for-4 with three runs scored while Erickson and Yute again tallied two hits a piece.

Morgan Sivak (Sr. – Oconomowoc, WI) picked up the win on the mound to improve to 3-1 on the season while striking out three in 2.1 innings of work.

The Blugolds (9-3) will be back on the road to Minnesota on Saturday, this time traveling to Collegeville to take on the College of Saint Benedict. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m. Follow the Blugolds all the action on Blugold Game Day.
