Track & Field Announces Team Awards

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's and women's track & field teams announced their team awards for their season this week.

Marcus Weaver (So. – Lewiston, MN/Lewiston-Altura) was named the men's most valuable teammate after a historic year. After capturing NCAA Championships in the decathlon and the javelin, Weaver was named the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division III Field Athlete of the Year and Most Outstanding Performer at the NCAA Championships. Weaver recorded the third best decathlon score (7510) in D-III history during the championship weekend and another all-time top-10 score (7213) at the Ashton-Esten Invite in April.

Megan Wallace (Sr. – Burlington, WI) was named the women's team most valuable teammate after a career senior year. After setting the NCAA Division III Heptathlon point record (5471) in April and placed second at the NCAA Championships, Wallace was named an All-American and USTFCCCA Midwest Female Field Athlete of the Year.

The men's newcomer of the year was given to EJ Kruse (Fr. – Appleton, WI/Kimberly). As a part of the Blugold's 4X100 Relay, Kruse competed at the NCAA Championships where the men's relay team took 5th place. The relay team also posted a top-15 national time during the national championships.

Gianna Kornaus (Fr. – Oneida, WI/Pulaski) was given the women's newcomer of the year award after a stellar year with her 4X100 relay team. The team of four posted a national top-5 time at the NCAA Qualifiers in May and finished 4th in their race at the NCAA Championships. They were all named All-Americans as well.

The captain awards went to fifth-year seniors Hunter Henk (Sr. – Beldenville, WI/River Falls) and Glory Hecker (Sr. – Stone Lake, WI/Hayward Center). Henk, an All-American recipient, was part of the 4X100 men's relay that placed 5th at nationals. Hecker racked up three 1st place finishes in the 400m race throughout the regular season and competed at the NCAA Championships in the 400m and the Blugolds 4X400m relay. She also set two personal bests on the outdoor track this year in the 400m and the 100m races.
