Weaver Earns Champion Status Twice in Day Two of NCAA Outdoor Championships

GREENSBORO, NC (blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's and women's track & field teams were back at Irwin Belk Track on the campus of North Carolina A&T State for day two of the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Marcus Weaver (So. – Lewiston, MN/Lewiston-Altura) stole the show with a record-breaking win in the javelin and a strong finish to his decathlon victory.

Day 2 Results

Weaver, who held the top spot of the leaderboard after the first five events, continued his dominance with a second -place finish in the decathlon javelin, two third place finishes in the decathlon discus and 110m hurdles. Weaver's final point total of 7510 points which ranks third highest point total in NCAA Division III history.

After his first national championship win, Marcus Weaver wouldn't stop there as he ended the day in with the javelin finals. Weaver would hold steady in the top-3 through his first five rounds. It was his last throw of the day that would make history. Weaver recorded a sixth throw distance of 67.68m

Megan Wallace (Sr. – Burlington, WI) would push ahead in the heptathlon leaderboard after a first-place finish in the heptathlon javelin and a fourth place finish in the long jump. Wallace would finish the heptathlon in 2nd place with 5293 points.

Mitch Stegeman (So. – Coleman, WI/Suring) followed suit in the decathlon with top place finish in the decathlon pole vault and a second-place finish in the decathlon discus. Stegeman's continued success from day one earned him the runner-up spot in the decathlon with 6952 points.

Jordan Lacey (Sr. – Greenville, WI/St. Mary Central) finished the day with a stellar decathlon 1500m race finishing in third place. The top-3 finish would push him into 4th place with 6855 points in his decathlon finish.

Bailey Waldhauser (Sr. – Loyal, WI) and Connor Dolan (Sr. – Nekoosa, WI/Assumption) both earn All-American status and podium spots in their events. Waldhauser finished fifth in the women's high jump and Dolan finished eighth in the 3000m steeplechase.

The men currently sit atop in first place with 39 team points going into the final day of competition. The women sit in eighth with 12 team points.

The Blugolds will compete in day three of the NCAA Championship on Saturday, with the first events at 9:30 am CST.
