Thurgood Dennis Named WIAC Athlete of the Week

MADISON, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – For the second week in a row, UW-Eau Claire men's indoor track & field member Thurgood Dennis (So.-Allouez, Wis./Green Bay Notre Dame) has been named a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Athlete of the Week, WIAC Assistant Commissioner for Media Relations Matt Stanek announced today.

Dennis led the Blugolds as he won two events at UW-Stevens Point's Pointer/Eastbay Invitational on Feb. 16, while the Blugolds finished in fourth place.  He broke his own school record in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.80 seconds. The previous school record, which he set on Feb. 25, 2012, was 6.90 seconds.  His winning time was the second best in the nation so far this year and the top time in the WIAC.  Dennis also won the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.75 seconds, almost one second in front of the rest of the field, and the fastest time in the conference so far this year.
