Blugolds Split Weekend Contests In Madison

MADISON, Wis. (blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's tennis team was back on the road on Saturday for two nonconference matchups against North Central College and Luther College. After falling to North Central 3-6 in the opening contest, the Blugolds bounced back with a 5-4 victory over Luther to split the weekend.

In the opening contest, UWEC fell behind early as they were on the bottom end of all three doubles matches and took a 0-3 deficit. John Foley (Jr. – Wayzata, MN), RJ Griffiths (So. – Rogers, MN), and Colin Chapman (Fr. – Green Bay, WI/Southwest) all found success in singles play as they all won their matches to score the lone three points for Eau Claire. Griffiths and Chapman picked up wins at No. 3 and No. 6 singles in two sets each. Chapman won his matchup in a heated battle with C. Way (NCC) as he went to three sets and finished the contest off with a 10-7 final.

The following match showed improvement for the Blugolds as they defeated Luther College 5-4. RJ Griffiths and Hunter Roseth (Jr. – Lakeville, MN/South) earned the only doubles win as they cruised to an 8-1 victory at the No. 3 spot. Griffiths continued his success with a No. 3 singles win over M. Loen (LC), 6-4, 6-7, 10-8. Demetri Bush (Jr. – Edina, MN/Duluth Marshall) earned a 6-0 default win at No. 2 singles while John Foley and Kole Kolinski (Sr. – Kewaunee, WI/Ashwaubenon) sealed the team triumph with wins at No. 4 and 5 singles.

The Blugolds will be on the road next weekend to take on the Carleton College Knights in Rochester, MN.
