Men's Tennis Falls Short Against Carleton

ROCHESTER, Minn. (blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's tennis team was back in action on Saturday as they to a neutral site to take on the Carleton College Knights. As both teams battled in the nonconference matchup, the Blugolds kept their games close but fell short 7-2.

Results

Tyler Grosz (Jr. – Hudson, WI) and Hunter Roseth (Jr. – Lakeville, MN/South) started things off for UWEC in doubles play as they won 8-2 at the no. 3 slot. The no. 1 and 2 doubles matches both went to tiebreakers but the Blugolds couldn't overcome the Knights and found themselves down 2-1 as singles action began.

John Foley (Jr. – Wayzata, MN) was the lone Blugold to come away with a victory in singles play. Foley made a comeback victory at no. 4 singles as he defeated Tate Fuller (CC) 5-7, 6-2, 10-8 to earn Eau Claire's second and final team point of the afternoon. RJ Griffiths (Sr. – Rogers, MN) sent the second set to tiebreaker but lost in 5 and Kole Kolinski (Sr. – Kewaunee, WI/Ashwaubenon) forced a tiebreaker at no. 5 singles but fell 4-6, 6-1, 10-8.

The Blugolds will be back on the road on Saturday, February 19th with two nonconference games away from home. UWEC will face St. Olaf College (Minn.) in Owatonna, MN at 10AM and Carthage College (Wis.) at 3PM in Rochester, MN.
