ST. PETER, Minn. (blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's tennis participated in the 2021 ITA Midwest Regional hosted by Gustavus Adolphus College. The Midwest Open singles bracket featured an all Blugold final with Kole Kolinski (Sr. – Kewaunee, WI/Ashwaubenon) taking home the championship.
In ITA singles play, Matt Christensen (Sr. – Rochester, MN/Century) and RJ Griffiths (So. – Rogers, MN) both made it to the third round. The Midwest Open brackets showed some more promise for the Blugolds.
Colin Chapman (Fr. – Green Bay, WI/Southwest) and Kole Kolinski each defeated six opponents in row to earn themselves a spot in the Midwest Open finals. The finals, played on Monday in Eau Claire, provided close competition between the two teammates. In the end, Kolinski took home the championship defeating Chapman 6-2, 6-4.
Before getting to the finals, both players faced familiar foes in the quarterfinals as Kolinski defeated Ryan Fonseca (So. – Andover, MN) and Chapman beat Tyler Grosz (Jr. – Hudson, WI).
The Blugolds will be back at home on Wednesday, October 6th when they host UW-Stevens Point. The two WIAC opponents are set to begin at 7:00 PM during Eau Claire's annual Playing for a Cause game.
