Men’s Tennis Drops Close Match to Wheaton

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire men's tennis team fell to Wheaton 5-4 Friday night at the Eau Claire YMCA Tennis Center.

Kyle Hoffmann (Jr. Franklin, Wis.) fell to Josh Ward 6-0, 6-3 at number one singles.

At number two, Will Weyenberg (So. Neenah, Wis.) lost to Justin Ancona 6-1, 6-3.

Andrew Rust (Fr. Golden Valley, Minn.) was defeated by Matt Steiner 6-4, 6-4 at number three singles. Michael Mauthe (So. Neenah, Wis.) claimed the only singles victory at number four singles, defeating Lincoln Metz 6-1, 6-2 at number four.

At number five singles, Conrad Felten (So. Wausau, Wis.) fell to Karl Wenzel 6-3, 7-6.

Andrew Dahl (Fr. Fort Atkinson, Wis.) was defeated Derek Mumaw 7-6, 6-2 at number six singles.

The Blugolds' dominated doubles, sweeping Wheaton.

Hoffmann and Dahl defeated Ward and Ancona 8-4 at number one while Weyenberg and Rust fended off Steiner and Brent Westergren 8-4 at number two.

The number three team of Jordon Stevens (Jr. Woodbury, Minn.) and finished the sweep defeating Metz and Wenzel, 8-1.

The Blugolds travel to Owatonna, Minn. to take on Bethany Lutheran on Saturday.
