Men's Swimming & Diving Takes Fifth at Rochester Invite

ROCHESTER, Minn. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire men's swimming & diving team finished in fifth place out of eight teams at the Rochester Mid-Season Invitational, hosted by St. Cloud State University (Minn.) this weekend.

Eau Claire completed the weekend with 382 points while St. Cloud State won with 1,029.

The Blugolds came away with nine top-six finishes.

In diving, Nick Badilla (Sr.-Appleton, Wis./North) took fourth in the three-meter event with a score of 424.75 and sixth in the one-meter dive with a score of 426.

Alex Card (Jr.-Prior Lake, Minn.) had the top finish of any Blugold as he took runner-up in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:08.09. Card also finished in sixth place with a time of 1:59.49 in the 200-yard individual medley.

In the 1,650-yard freestyle, Jake McDade (So.-Monona, Wis./Monona Grove) finished sixth with a time of 17:04.39.

In the 400-yard medley relay, the team of Card, Corey Groshens (Sr.-St. Louis Park, Minn./Hopkins), Aaron Lickel (Jr.-Madison, Wis./East) and Spencer Rose (Jr.-Brookfield, Wis./Central) came in fifth place with a time of 3:34.67.

The team of Card, Groshens, Rose and Lickel also took fifth in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:38.61.

In the 200-yard freestyle relay, the team of Card, Groshens, Ben Epperly (Jr.-Schaumburg, Ill.) and Lickel captured sixth with a time of 1:27.49.

Card, Epperly, Lickel and Rose took sixth in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:12.65.

Next weekend, the Blugolds will be at the St. Thomas Invitational. Action will get underway Friday and will conclude Saturday.
