EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's hockey was back on the ice with UW-River Falls on Saturday night, this time beating the Falcons in regulation with a convincing 3-0 win.
While Friday night's game didn't see a goal until the third period, Jordan Randall (Fr. – Maple Grove, MN) made sure that wouldn't be the case on Saturday, scoring the game's first goal at the 7:19 mark of the first period off a Nick Techel (Jr. – Wausau, WI/West) assist. Eau Claire out-shot the Falcons 11-3 in the period.
Despite out-shooting the Falcons 12-2 in the second, the Blugolds were unable to add to their lead until the third. Midway through the period, Ryan Ouellette (Fr. – Colorado Springs, CO/Liberty) came up with a big save for the Blugolds and Andrew McGlynn (Sr. – St. Louis, MO/Christian Brothers College) would take the momentum to the other end, scoring his third goal of the season to make it 2-0 Blugolds with eight minutes to play. Willy Stauber (So. – Duluth, MN/Marshall) and Derek Hammer (Sr. – Woodbury, MN/East Ridge) would earn assists on the McGlynn goal.
Ryan Green (So. – Muskego, WI) would then seal the deal, lighting the lap at 14:21 of a Kyle Oleksiuk (Fr. – Winnipeg, Manitoba) assist for the 3-0 win.
While the two squads were nearly even in shots on Friday, the Blugolds dominated on Saturday, out-shooting the Falcons 32-14.
Ouellette added 14 saves to his season total and moves to 12-6-1 on the season.
Eau Claire (13-11-1, 9-6-0 WIAC) will now wait to see their seed for the WIAC Tournament.
