MENOMONIE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's hockey team picked up their third-straight win on Saturday night, defeating UW-Stout 2-1 in overtime thanks to a breakaway goal by Ty Readman (Sr. – Edmonton, Alberta/Vimy Ridge Academy).
The Blugolds struck first, as Colin Stein (Fr. – Pewaukee, WI/Catholic Memorial) lit the lamp at 15:15 of the first period off an assist from Jordan Randall (Fr. – Maple Grove, MN).
Stout would tally a goal of their own just over three minutes later, and the game remained knotted at 1 for the rest of regulation.
In overtime, Readman gathered the puck in the middle of the ice and scored on a breakaway at 1:47 to give Eau Claire the win.
The Blugolds had 26 to the Blue Devils' 20 shots while Ryan Ouellette (Fr. – Colorado Springs, CO/Liberty) recorded 19 saves in goal and improves to 8-6-0 on the season.
The Blugolds (9-11-0, 5-6-0 WIAC) will be back at home Feb. 4-5 as they host Northland College. Both games will start at 7 p.m. at Hobbs Ice Arena.
