STEVENS POINT, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – Playing their third game in five days, the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's hockey team traveled to UW-Stevens Point on Tuesday night, falling to the No. 13 Pointers by a score of 7-1.
It was an even game until midway through the first, when the Pointers scored their first goal of the night. But late in the period, Stevens Point would score at 18:35 and twice more within the last minute of the period to take a 4-0 lead into the first intermission.
The Pointers would notch another goal early in the second, but the Blugolds would get one back at 18:27 when Connor Koviak (Sr. – Canton, MI/Plymouth) lit the lamp with assists from Sammy Martel (So. – Bolingbrook, IL/Neuqua Valley) and Peter Jacobs (Fr. – Carlsbad, CA/Lewis Palmer).
But Stevens Point would tally two more goals in the third to seal the win after out-shooting the Blugolds 33-22 on the night.
Ryan Ouellette (Fr. – Colorado Springs, CO/Liberty) was tagged with the loss, collecting seven saves in 20 minutes of play. Riley McVeigh (Sr. – Calgary, AB/Rundle College) finished out the game in goal, registering 19 saves.
The Blugolds (6-10-0, 2-5-0 WIAC) will have another short break as they return to the road on Friday night for a 2-game series at UW-Superior. Both games are scheduled for 7 p.m.
