Blugolds fall to No. 14 Pointers

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's hockey team was back in action Wednesday, traveling to Stevens Point to take on the 14th-ranked Pointers in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action. The Pointers would come away with a 3-0 win.

Both teams came out firing, but neither could find the back of the net in the first period.

In the second, the Pointers out-shot the Blugolds 12-6 and would tally two goals to take the lead heading into the third.  

In the final frame, Eau Claire out-shot the Pointers 11-6 but it was Stevens Point who would score, taking the game by a final score of 3-0.  

The two squads would each finish the night with 26 shots and were nearly even in faceoffs, with Eau Claire winning 31 and Stevens Point taking 36. The Blugold defense blocked 15 shots to the Pointers' 6.

Tyler Love (Jr. - Pittsburgh, PA/Moon Area) led Eau Claire with four shots on goal while Jon Richards (Sr. – Callaway, MN/Detroit Lakes) and Simon Sagissor (Sr. – Stillwater, MN) each tallied three.

Netminder Ryan Ouellette (Fr. – Colorado Springs, CO/Liberty) recorded 23 saves in the loss and falls to 3-4-0 on the season.

The Blugolds (4-9-0, 2-4-0 WIAC) will be back in action this weekend as they host Concordia-Moorhead on Friday and Saturday at Hobbs Ice Arena. Both games are slated for 7 p.m.
