Strong third period propels Blugolds past Northland

ASHLAND, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – After a six-game homestand, the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's hockey team traveled to Ashland to take on Northland College for another Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) match-up. After two scoreless periods, the Blugolds came alive in the third to win by a score of 3-0.

Quinn Green (So. – West Chicago, IL/St. Charles East) opened the scoring with an unassisted goal at 12:17 in the third and minutes later, Nick Techel (Jr. – Wausau, WI/West) lit the lamp at 16:25 off assists from Andrew McGlynn (Sr. – St. Louis, MO/Christian Brothers College) and Derek Hammer (Sr. – Woodbury, MN/East Ridge), tallying his first goal of the season.

Austin Becker (Fr. – Amery, WI) scored the final goal – and the first of his Blugold career – thanks to assists from Connor Koviak (Sr. – Canton, MI/Plymouth) and Peter Jacobs (Fr. – Carlsbad, CA/Lewis Palmer).

Goaltender Riley McVeigh (Sr. – Calgary, AB/Rundle College) earned the win in goal, recording 16 saves and moves to 1-3-0 on the season.

Eau Claire out-shot Northland 51-16 on the night and won 45 of 70 faceoffs.

The Blugolds (4-6-0, 2-1-0 WIAC) will be back in action on Saturday in River Falls to take on the Falcons at 7 p.m.
