Men's Hockey Suffers 1-0 Loss in Season Opener

ST. CLOUD, Minn. (blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's hockey team opened their season on the road Saturday with a trip to Saint John's University (Minn.). After surrendering an early goal, the Blugolds could not find an answer in their 0-1 road loss.

Jarrad Vroman (Sr. – Lincoln Park, MI/St. Francis Cabrini) led the UWEC offense from the blue line with a team high five shots on goal. Connor Koviak (Sr. – Canton, MI/Plymouth) was nearly perfect in the faceoff dot winning 8 of the 10 draws he took.

A physical game between the Blugolds and Johnnies saw 56 penalty minutes. Eau Claire's offense continued pressure all game long as they outshot SJU 34-28.

Riley McVeigh (Sr. – Calgary, AB/Rundle College) stopped 27 of the 28 shots he faced. He starts the season 0-1-0.

The Blugolds will be back on the road on November 6th when they travel to St. Olaf for an 8pm puck drop.
