Six Blugold men receive AHCA All-America Scholar distinction

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) announced the men's 2020-21 Krampade All-America Scholars on Tuesday, with six members of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's hockey team earning honors.

AHCA release

The AHCA All-American Scholar Program, sponsored by Krampade, is a distinguished recognition presented to more than 1,000 student-athletes by the AHCA. To qualify for the award, an NCAA Division I or III men's hockey student-athlete must have attained at least a 3.6 grade-point-average in both the fall and spring semesters during the 2020-21 academic year, regardless if a hockey season was held or not due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Colin Ahern (Fr. – Fond du Lac, WI/St. Mary's Springs), Braxton Collins (Sr. – Eau Claire, WI/Regis), Kasey Fitzjerrells (Jr. - Dubuque, IA), Derek Hammer (Jr. – Woodbury, MN/East Ridge), Connor Koviak (Jr. – Canton, MI/Plymouth) and Riley McVeigh (Jr. – Calgary, AB/Rundle College) represented the Blugolds on the list.

"We made a decision to include all hockey players who met the academic standard, whether their team was allowed to play or not," said AHCA executive director Joe Bertagna. "Those who were denied a chance to compete have already been disadvantaged and we did not want to add to their situation."

The Blugolds recorded a record of 4-3-1 in the shortened season.
