Page Named Max Sparger Men’s Basketball Scholar-Athlete

MADISON, Wis. (blugolds.com)--The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's Spencer Page has been selected recipient of the 2022 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Max Sparger Men's Basketball Scholar-Athlete Award.

Page, a senior from Rice Lake, Wis. (Rice Lake), sustains a 3.76 grade point average and is double-majoring in business finance and business economics. He secured a spot on the National Association of Basketball Coaches Honors Court for the 2020-21 season and is a three-time member of the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll. Page has been recognized on UW-Eau Claire's Dean's List.
 
A two-year team captain, he secured All-WIAC honorable mention recognition in 2020. Page started all 26 games for the Blugolds this season and contributed 9.0 points and 3.7 rebounds per contest.
 
In 2021, he was elected as a member of the Northwestern Mutual Internship iLead Program, as well as a Target 20 qualifier for the Northwestern Mutual Internship Program. Page is a member of UW-Eau Claire's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and has volunteered at the Eau Claire Community Table and Eau Claire Boys and Girls Club.
 
Also nominated for this year's scholar-athlete award were: UW-La Crosse's Seth Anderson (Sr., Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield); UW-Oshkosh's Eric Peterson (Sr., Batavia, Ill./Batavia); UW-Platteville's Blake McCann (Sr., Janesville, Wis./Craig); UW-River Falls' Thomas Robarge (Sr., Chippewa Falls, Wis./Chi-Hi); and UW-Stout's Drew Scott (Sr., Prairie du Chien, Wis./Prairie du Chien).

The WIAC Scholar-Athlete Award is named after Max Sparger, who served as commissioner of the Wisconsin State University Conference for 22 years from 1971-93. He oversaw the transition of the conference from NAIA to full NCAA membership. Sparger arrived at UW-Stout in 1959 and served the institution in a variety of capacities, including an assistant football and basketball coach, head wrestling coach and head football coach. He served as UW-Stout's athletics director from 1969-71 and was inducted into the WIAC Hall of Fame in 2012.
 
In order to be nominated for the scholar-athlete award, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.50 grade point average. In addition, he must be in his last year of competition, or on schedule to graduate this academic year, and have competed for a minimum of two years. The award is based on academic achievements, athletics accomplishments and involvement in other campus activities, organizations and community service projects.
