WHITEWATER, Wis. (blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's basketball team finished their road week of Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) play as they traveled to play the UW-Whitewater Warhawks. The Blugolds would take the lead in the final minutes of the first half and refused to give it up, snapping their six-game losing streak.

Box Score

The Blugolds fell behind early in the first half after the Warhawks surged out to a 17-10 lead in the first 10 minutes of the first half. However, the Blugolds slowly battled back putting on a defensive front holding the Warhawks to 11 more points. Michael Casper (So. – Merrill, WI) who lead the Blugolds with 9 of his game high 20 points in the first half, hit a last second heave from half court to put the Blugolds ahead 32-28 at half.

To start the second half, Eau Claire exploded into a 20-8 run in the first five minutes of the second half behind Casper and Nolan Blair (So. – Stevens Point, WI). The Warhawks would battle back to close on the Blugold lead with seven minutes to go, but the Blugolds would drive in the post to draw fouls and keep Whitewater a 10-point distance away and it would remain that way for the rest of the game as the Blugolds ended a 6-game losing streak, beating the Warhawks 74-63. Brock Voigt (Jr. – Sun Prairie, WI) once again had a big second half with 12 points while Blair set career highs with 13 points and 4 assists.
