First Half Deficit Too Much for Blugolds to Overcome in Road Loss

RIVER FALLS, Wis. (blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's basketball team was back on the road Wednesday for Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) play as they traveled to play the UW-River Falls Falcons. The Blugolds struggled to stop the Falcons scoring attack on the road, falling 80-72.

The Blugolds got off to a hot start in the first half hitting 6 threes within the first 10 minutes soaring to an early 22-15 lead. Eau Claire would then go cold on shooting for the remainder of the half as well as face defensive struggles allowing the Falcons to take the lead going into halftime 45-30.

In the second half, Spencer Page(Sr. –  Rice Lake, WI) would jumpstart the Blugold offense scoring seven of his 19 total points withing the first few minutes where Eau Claire would continue their hot streak to go on a 24-9 run to tie the game at 54. Defensive struggles would continue for the Blugolds allowing the Falcons to bolster another lead. Brock Voigt (Jr. – Sun Prairie, WI), who had foul trouble in the First half, came back to have a 13-point second half to keep the Blugolds within comeback range. Eau Claire would end up falling short to the Falcons 80-72.

The Blugolds (8-10, WIAC 1-6) will continue their road week of WIAC play at UW-Whitewater on Saturday with Tipoff scheduled for 5PM.
