EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's basketball team continued their Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) play at home against the UW-Whitewater Warhawks. Despite a strong first half, the Blugolds were unable to close out the Warhawks and fell 77-72.

After the Warhawks jumped out to an early lead in the first 5 minutes, Eau Claire responded with an 11-2 to run to tie. After trailing closely behind for the majority of the first half, the Blugolds closed out the last four minutes on a 16-4 run lead by Brock Voigt (Jr. – Sun Prairie, WI) to take the lead 40-36 at halftime. Voigt scored 11 of his 20 total points in the first half.

In the second half, Carter Hanke (Jr. – Marathon, WI) came off the bench to lead the Blugolds in the second half with 10 points, eight of them coming within the final six minutes on clutch shooting. Eau Claire stayed ahead of the Warhawks for the first 15 minutes of the second half, but the Blugolds were unable to hold off the Warhawks offensive attack due to turnover struggles towards the end.

The Blugolds (8-7, WIAC 1-3) will be on the road Wednesday at WIAC opponent UW-Stout. Tipoff is scheduled for 7PM.
