Men's Basketball Earns First Home Win

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's basketball team was back at home on Sunday as they hosted the Alma College Scots in a nonconference battle in Zorn Arena. After an offensive powered first half, the Blugolds picked earned their first home win of the season, 78-66.

The home loss earlier in the week was washed away in the first stages of the contest as UWEC pulled out to an 11-point lead in the first seven minutes. The Blugold defense kept the offensive opportunities alive for UWEC as they forced seven Alma turnovers in the first 20 minutes of play. Both Spencer Page (Sr. – Rice Lake, WI) and Brock Voigt (Jr. – Sun Prairie, WI) put up ten points in the first frame and had a game high, 18 points from their bench before halftime.

With a 45-35 lead at half, the home squad extended their lead to as much as 20 after a David Ijadimbola (So. – Brooklyn Park, MN/Park Center) layup just past the halfway mark of the second half. Including his layup, the Blugolds put up 14 points in the paint during the second half and were 4 for 8 from beyond the arc.

Spencer Page ended the game with a team high 17 points while Brock Voigt and Cade Hall (So. – Mauston, WI) both had 14 points and four rebounds each.

The Blugolds (5-2, WIAC 0-0) will hit the road on Wednesday, December 1st when they begin Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) play. UWEC will face UW-Oshkosh from the Kolf Sports Center at 7PM.
