EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (www.blugolds.com) - The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire football team has announced their 2023 schedule. With new Head Coach Rob Erickson taking the helm in his first season, the Blugolds have solidified their ten game regular season schedule with three non conference opponents, seven Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) matchups, and five home games.
UW-Eau Claire will open the season at Carson Park when Concordia-Moorhead (Minn.) comes to town on Saturday, September 2nd. The Blugolds and Cobbers have a scarce history with their last contests dating back to home and home series during September of 2015 and 2016. The Blugolds fell to the Cobbers in both contests but have accumulated a 9-7 record against conference opponents since 2016.
After the home opener, UWEC Football will travel to Coe College on Saturday, September 9th for the first meeting in program history between the Blugolds and Kohwawks. In 2022, Coe College finished the regular season with a 7-3 record and are 3-2 all time against WIAC schools.
UW-Eau Claire's second home game of the year will follow their first road game as they host Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) and NCAA Division III at large bid, Bethel University. The Bethel Royals fell to Saint John's University in the MIAC Championship in 2022 but made a significant run in the NCAA Division III Championship with wins over #15 ranked Wheaton and #5 Linfield University to earn a spot in the Quarterfinals where they fell to NCAA semifinalists, #3 Mary Hardin-Baylor. The Blugolds hold a 1-2 all time record against the Royals with the programs' last meeting dating back to November 2007. UWEC's lone victory over Bethel came in 2002 during a 40-0 road win.
After their mandatory bye week, UW-Eau Claire will beginn WIAC play on Saturday, September 30th when they travel to UW-Stevens Point for a 1PM kickoff. Eau Claire currently holds a two game win streak over the Pointers and are 9-15 all time.
The WIAC opener for UWEC is set for Saturday, October 7th against UW-River Falls. From there, the Blugolds will be on the road against UW-Oshkosh, UW-La Crosse, and UW-Whitewater every other week. Eau Claire will host UW-River Falls, UW-Platteville, and UW-Stout on alternating Saturdays out at Carson Park.
All home games for the year are scheduled for 1:00 PM kickoff.
