Matson Records Four RBI's And Three Homers In Doubleheader Loss

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (blugolds.com) - The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire baseball team lost their doubleheader with UW-Stevens Point on Saturday, with both games finishing at 9-6.

Game one began with a solo home run from Logan Matson (Jr.-Neillsville, WI) to give Eau Claire an initial 1-0 lead. Matson would hit another home run in the fifth inning, his third of the season.

Following a single from Chase Yaeger (Fr.-Black River Falls, WI), Nate Witte (Fr.-Woodbury, MN/East Ridge) record a two-run homer that sent the Blugolds into the bottom of the fifth with a 4-0 advantage.

The Pointers took back two runs in the fifth and sixth innings before the Blugolds added two of their own in the seventh. Matson crossed plate for the third time in the game off a single from Otto Treichel (So.-Madison, WI/West), which also scored Henry Pitsch (Fr.-Madison, WI/West).

Eau Claire went into the final inning of game one with a 6-5 lead, but the Pointers scored four runs to complete the comeback.

The starting pitcher was Charley Griffin (So.-River Falls, WI), who went six innings for UWEC and allowed just two runs.

The second game was back-and-forth through the first several innings. The Blugolds again scored first on a double from Anthony Pogodzinski (Fr.-Eau Claire, WI/North) that scored Johnny Pecora (Fr.-South Barrington, IL). Pogodzinski would then score off an RBI from Yaeger.

While Eau Claire added two more in the third, Stevens Point would add three in the bottom of the inning and four in the fifth, holding the lead the remainder of the game.

Matson hit his third home run of the day in the seventh. Additionally, Treichel finished the game with three of Eau Claire's 14 hits.
