PLATTEVILLE, Wis. (blugolds.com) - The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire baseball team lost their Tuesday afternoon doubleheader with UW-Platteville, 8-2 and 10-4.

Game 1 Box Score | Game 2 Box Score

Platteville scored the first eight runs of the game in game one, but the Blugolds would tighten things up in the final inning. David Janssen (Fr.-Lino Lakes, MN/Centennial) got on base off a walk and later scored on a single by Johnny Pecora (Fr.-South Barrington, IL). Pecora would also score a batter later, as Chase Yaeger (Fr.-Black River Falls, WI) earned the RBI.

Despite a double from Nate Witte (Fr.-Woodbury, MN/East Ridge), Eau Claire was unable to add any more runs, falling 8-2.

Tom Ginther (Sr.-Rock Springs, WI/Baraboo) got the start on the mound for the Blugolds, striking out seven batters over 5.2 innings. Brenton Boldt (Fr.-Waterford, WI/Muskego) came on in relief, allowing one run over 2.1 innings.

The Pioneers struck first in game two, but Eau Claire responded with a two-run fourth inning. Otto Treichel (So.-Madison, WI/West) got the offense going in the inning off a Platteville error and scored off an RBI from Jacob Lacy (Jr.-Shawano, WI). The other run would come from Henry Pitsch (Fr.-Madison, WI/West) who singled and then scored off another error.

UWEC hung around, with the score 4-3 in favor of Platteville before a big bottom of the seventh from the Pioneers. The Blugolds would load up the bases in their final chance at the plate in the ninth and scored a run, but it wasn't enough to close the gap.

Eau Claire finished with eight hits in the second game, as Pitsch led the team with three. Lacy showed excellent discipline at the plate, leading all players with three walks.

The Blugolds will get an opportunity to avenge the defeats when they welcome Platteville to Carson Park on Friday, with first pitch times once again at 1 and 4 pm.
