RIVER FALLS, Wis. (blugolds.com) - The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire baseball team dropped their Saturday doubleheader with UW-Stout, 3-1 and 13-3 (7 innings). The action took place at First National Bank of River Falls Field, the first college baseball game played there since 2002.

Nate Witte (Fr.-Woodbury, MN/East Ridge) opened the day's action with a leadoff triple and later scored off a sacrifice bunt by Logan Matson (Jr.-Neilsville, WI).

The Blugold offense struggled to get things going the rest of the way, despite five hits. Their best opportunity came in the ninth, when Otto Triechel (So.-Madison, WI/West) doubled with one out. Triechel would advance to third, but Eau Claire was unable to knock him home.

Will Mosinki (Fr.-Carlisle, PA) got the start on the mound in the first game, pitching five innings and recording six strikeouts. Kendal Lecker (So.-Seymour, WI) came on in relief and pitched three innings.

Stout scored first in game two, but the Blugolds responded with a solo home run from Cade Mueller (Fr.-Coal City, IL) in the second inning.

Big fifth and sixth innings from the Blue Devils strengthened their lead, even as Eau Claire scored a pair of runs in the sixth. Matson doubled to left field and later scored on an error. Treichel reached base off an error and later scored, tightening the game.

Will Jilek (Sr.-Hudson, WI) singled to start the seventh and final inning, but he was left on base as the Blugold offense was unable to put any more pressure on the Stout defense.

Eau Claire finished game two with six hits, with two coming from Matson and Jacob Lacy (Jr.-Shawano, WI).

The Blugolds will once again be on the road for their next series against UW-Oshkosh on Wednesday, March 31. First pitches will take place at noon and 3 PM. Follow the action on Blugold Game Day.
