Meade, Kussow, and Baierl Earn WIAC Kwik Trip Athletes of the Week

MADISON, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's Lexi Meade (Jr. - Eau Claire, WI/Memorial), Kiki Kussow (Jr. - Green Bay, WI/Notre Dame), and Kendra Baierl (Sr. - Marshfield, WI/Columbus Catholic) have been named Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Kwik Trip Athletes of the Week, as was announced by Assistant Commissioner of Media Relations Matt Stanek.

Meade led the Blugolds in their first home meet of the year, securing co-medalist honors and shooting only nine over par (152) during the UW-Eau Claire Georgianni Blugold Invitational held Sept. 11-12. Meade slotted into second place after shooting a 74 in round one and kept her game sharp in round two to earn a share of the top podium spot. A total of 45 individuals competed in the event. This is Meade's lowest score and highest placement of the season. 

Kussow and the Blugold defense helped UW-Eau Claire secure its first home win of the season. They allowed only five shots on goal and one goal through 180 minutes of play during the week. Kussow helped the team earn their second clean sheet of the year with a 2-0 win over College of Saint Benedict (Minn.) 

Baierl contributed to the Blugolds' balanced offensive attack with 2.36 kills per set on a .347 hitting percentage during the week. She accounted for 22 of the Blugolds' 35 blocks for a 1.57 blocks per set average. Baierl was named to the Augsburg College (Minn.) Auggie Invite All-Tournament Team following an impressive 13-0-21 (.619) performance combined with seven block assists in the Blugolds' win over No. 22-ranked Augsburg.
