Banquet set for Hall of Fame Class of 2020

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire Blugold Hall of Fame Class of 2020 will finally get its recognition.

An induction banquet has been planned for Saturday, September 4, 2021, according to Director of Athletics Dan Schumacher.

The seven members of the Class of 2020, which was announced last fall in conjunction with homecoming where the newest class is normally recognized, will be honored at a luncheon September 4 and introduced at halftime of the Blugold football game that evening.

The seven members of the class, who will receive their plaques, are basketball players Jon Wallenfelsz (1997-2000) and Sherm Carstensen (1998-2001), golfers Ryan Quinn (2000-03) and Josh Dirks (1998-2000), wrestler Davey Starks (2000-03), track athlete John Schuna (2002-05) and gymnast Alison (Eagles) Anderson (2002-05).  Duplicate plaques will be displayed on the Hall of Fame wall in the McPhee Physical Education Center on the university's upper campus.

The banquet is open to the public and tickets are $30.  Reservations can be made by calling the Alumni Office at 715 836-3266 or by emailing Jane Larson at larsojan@uwec.edu.  A social will begin at noon in the Alumni Room of Davies Center with the meal at 1 p.m. in the Dakota Ballroom of Davies Center.  The recognition program, which will be streamed live, will begin at 2 p.m.  WEAU TV13 news anchor Bob Gallaher, who was the sports director when these athletes competed, will serve as the emcee.

The football game against Luther College, which is the Blugolds' 2021 season opener, will begin at 6 p.m. at Carson Park.  Tickets for that game can be purchased at the field, beginning one hour before game time.  Reserved seat tickets are $10 and adult general admission tickets are $8.

"We decided to give the Class of 2020 its own special day and not combine it with the Class of 2021," said Schumacher.  The Class of 2021, which has not yet been announced, will be recognized on Homecoming weekend, which is set for October 15-16, 2021.
