Soccer falls in season opener

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's soccer team hosted Augsburg University in their season opener on Friday, falling to the Auggies by a score of 2-0.

It was a defensive battle from the start but the Auggies would find the back of the net at the 8:56 mark of the first half and finished the first with nine shots to the Blugolds' five.

Eau Claire's defense would hold Augsburg to five shots in the second half but the Auggies still managed to add another goal at the 47:59 mark.

The Blugolds had some strong looks at the goal, including a shot by Emily Sullivan (Sr.- Medina, MN/Wayzata) at 59:31 that just missed the mark.

Anna Sveiven (Jr. – Blaine, MN/Centennial) took the loss in goal for the Blugolds, tallying eight saves on the day. 

Eau Claire (0-1) is back in action Sunday, September 1st at 1 p.m. at St. Catherine University.  The Blugolds return to Bollinger Field Saturday, September 7th to take on St. Norbert College at 2 p.m.  Follow the Blugolds all season long on Blugold Game Day or on the 'UWEC Blugolds' app from your mobile device.
