EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – After a successful 2018 season, the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's soccer team announced their team awards.
Defensive Player of the Year: Sammy Lefaive
Offensive Player of the Year: Monica Zoellner
Most Valuable Player: Emily Sullivan
Playmaker of the Year: Emma Stange
Freshman Player of the Year: Emma Stange
Most Improved: Addie Johnson
Golden Shoe: Anna Larson
Practice Player of the Year: Kelly Opie
Goaltender Sammy Lefaive (Sr. – Coon Rapids, MN) earned First Team All-WIAC (Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) honors after recording 82 saves with a save percentage of .788 while finishing with a 9-7-2 record. The senior also earned a spot on the United States Soccer Coaches NCAA Division III Scholar All-North/Central Region Team.
Monica Zoellner (Sr. – East Troy, WI) finished third on the team in goals (5) and assists (3) to earn First Team All-WIAC honors in her final season in the Blugold uniform.
Emily Sullivan (Jr. – Medina, MN/Wayzata garnered team MVP honors after a stellar junior season. Sullivan earned First Team All-WIAC honors for the third-straight year and led the Blugolds with 11 goals including five game-winners, also a team-high. For her efforts, she also was named to the United States Soccer Coaches NCAA Division III All-North Region Third team. In addition, Sullivan was named to the organization's Scholar All-North/Central Region Team.
Newcomer Emma Stange (Fr. – Andover, MN/Anoka) started in 17 games this season, tallying two points and 21 shots.
Addie Johnson (So. – St. Michael, MN/St. Michael-Albertsville) made appearances in 16 games, including eight starts.
Garnering the team's Golden Shoe Award – given to the team's "unsung hero" – Anna Larson (So. – Lakeville, MN/North) started in all 19 games in 2018, tallying two points and took nine shots.
Kelly Opie (Sr. – Hartland, WI/Arrowhead) appeared in eight games in 2018.
Next season's team captains were also selected: Larson, Sullivan and Emma Geppert (Jr. – Middleton, WI).
