Prior to his collegiate wrestling career, Perkin attended Whitnall High School in Greenfield, Wis.  After high school, he attended UW-Milwaukee for two years before transferring.  Perkin graduated with an undergraduate degree in music education.

"Elroy is one of the best young assistant coaches in the country," said Fader. "He loves to wrestle and train and still competes on the national level. That attitude has had a very positive impact on our college wrestlers. He is learning a lot about coaching and just as he does when he competes, he continues to improve. We have been through a lot of battles together and I know that Elroy wants to see the Blugold wrestling program reach new heights!"
