Matthew Lewellen enters his third season with the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Wrestling Coaching Staff during the 2021-22 season. Matthew was a part of the 2019-20 record setting season. The Blugolds finished the season with a 12-4 dual meet record, 5 Scholar All Americans and 3 NCAA DIII All Americans. Matthew’s role within the coaching staff is marketing and digital media, mindset and technique development, and other duties as assigned.

Before joining the Blugolds Matthew served as Head Assistant & Recruiting Coordinator for the University of Mary in Bismarck, North Dakota. Lewellen helped coach the Marauders for three seasons and his best efforts at UMARY were seen in the recruiting department. Lewellen was responsible for a top 15 non-division I recruiting class in 2019.
 
As a prep athlete, Lewellen competed for Poway High School in California, where they won a state team title in 2005 and were runner-ups at the CIF State Championships in 2006 & 2007. During his college tenure, Lewellen was a 2-time CCCAA state placer for Palomar Community College (6th in 2010 & 3rd in 2011). Following his time at Palomar, he continued his athletic and academic career with Minnesota State University Moorhead (MSUM) where he competed at 197 lbs & 184 lbs. Lewellen was a 4-year college captain and starter for the Comets and Dragons.

Lewellen holds a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science from MSUM and a Masters of Education from the University of Mary. He resides in Eau Claire with his fiancé and two dogs.
