Men's Cross Country finishes 6th at Midwest Regional, Dolan advances to National Meet

Winneconne, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's cross country team competed at the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional meet on Saturday, November 16. The Blugolds placed 6th out of 36 teams. The Blugolds scored 192 points in their final cross country meet of the season.

Connor Dolan (Jr.  – Nekoosa, WI/Assumption) led the team and finished 16th overall with a time of 25:13.8. Dolan earned All-Midwest Region honors and qualified for the NCAA National Division III Cross Country meet as an individual*.

Head Coach Dan Schwamberger said, "Connor Dolan's 2+ years of smart training showed on Saturday."

Alex Winn (Sr. – Kingston, WA) was the second Blugold to finish the race. Winn placed 34th with a time of 25:33. Winn also earned All-Midwest Region honors. Zach Yengo (So. – Eau Claire, WI/Eau Claire Regis) finished right behind Winn in 36th place, running a time of 25:33.9.

Brett Haffner (So. – Darien, IL/Hinsdale South) crossed the line in 48th place with an official time of 26:01.9. Chad Couser (Jr. – Rochester, MN/Rochester Mayo) rounded out the top 5 for the men's cross country team. Couser placed 58th with a time of 26:12.1.

Bailey Wilson (Sr. – New Richmond, WI) finished 95th running a time of 26:55.3. Tyler Osen (Fr. – Lakeville, MN/Lakeville North) was the 7th runner for the Blugolds. Osen placed 109th with a time of 27:11.9.

Head Coach Dan Schwamberger said he's proud of the team and excited to see what Dolan can do at the NCAA Division III National meet.

 Schwamberger said, "my hope is that our guys use this as a positive motivator heading into track this spring and next year's cross country season."

Connor Dolan will race at the NCAA Division III National Cross Country meet this next Saturday, November 23 in Louisville, Kentucky. The meet will be held at tom Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Kentucky. The men's cross country team will take a break before gearing up for the start of the indoor track season.

*The top 7 individual finishers from each region that are not part of the qualifying team earn an invitation to run at the national championship meet.
