Men's Tennis Splits in Illinois

HANOVER PARK, Ill. (Blugolds.com) – Facing two teams in Illinois, the UW-Eau Claire men's tennis team started the day with a loss but then bounced back with a win, the Blugolds' first of the year, to finish 1-1 at the Centre Court Athletic Club today.

Eau Claire opened the day with a 7-2 loss to Wheaton College (Ill.) on its home court, then beat Judson University (Ill.) 8-1.

Conrad Felten (Fr.-Wausau, Wis./East) and Josh Chuba (Fr.-Elk River, Minn.) won at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively, against Wheaton to record the Blugolds' only wins. Felten played a close match but came out on top, 1-6, 7-5, 10-5, and Chuba won 6-4, 6-3.

Later in the day against Judson, the Blugolds experienced just one loss at No. 2 singles.

The Blugolds' No. 5 and No. 6 players again finished strong, not losing a single game as they both won 6-0, 6-0. This time is was Nathan Tretsven (So.-North St. Paul, Minn.) and Michael Mauthe (Fr.-Neenah, Wis.) playing at No. 5 and No. 6 singles.

In doubles play, Mauthe and Austin Auleta (Fr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) didn't lose a single game as the pair won 8-0 in the No. 3 spot.

Eau Claire is now 1-2 on the season.

Next Saturday the Blugolds will be in St. Peter, Minn. to face Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) and Hamline University (Minn.).
