Going into the game, the Blugolds held the second-place spot in conference standings and looked to remain there with a key victory against the third-place Yellowjackets. After a slow start, the Blugolds bounced back in the final two frames to secure a 4-2 victory.

Earlier in the season, the Blugolds and Falcons skated to a 2-2 after a last-minute goal by River Falls. Despite being down early, the Blugolds would take control in the third period and complete the comeback for their 16th win and 2nd conference win of the season.

This would be the 29th meeting between these teams dating back to 1979 with the Blugolds leading the series with a record of 17-9-2. With a win the previous night, the Blugolds kept the momentum with a 3-2 win.

The Tommies came in ranked #15 by USCHO.com as both teams looked for a win to gain momentum into the weekend. Special teams played a big part for the Blugolds as they went 1 for 4 on the powerplay and 6 for 6 on the penalty kill to earn a 2-1 win.

The Blugolds entered the game outshooting opponents on an average of 39 shots to 17 shots. The Blugolds trailed early on but came back as they overpowered the Pipers in a 5-2 victory.
