Women’s Cross Country Wins Luther Saga Cup Challenge; Lamack Individual Champion

DECORAH, Iowa. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's cross country team traveled to Luther College this past weekend, where they showed off their depth and young talent in a victory at the Luther Sage Cup Challenge. The women scored just 15 points to Luther's 50.

The women took the top 5 overall spots. Leading the way was Hannah Lamack (Fr. – Kewaunee, WI/Kewaunee), who led the entire race and finished the 6,000m course in 22:59.

Karen Gomez-Ruiz (Chatfield, MN/Chatfield), Lexie Chambers (Fr. Prior Lake, MN/Jordan), Emma Drangsveit (Fr. Lakeville, MN/North), and Alanna Huggett (Fr. – Marshall, WI/Marshall) completed the top 5, finishing in 23:17, 23:27, 23:38, and 23:40, respectively.

Coach Schwamberger was excited about the the performances, saying it might be the best team performance ever at Luther for both the men and women. The future is clearly in good hands.

The Blugolds who ran the JV Luther Saga Cup will begin the steady transition to indoor track; however, the top 8 runners will travel to Rock Island, Ill. on Saturday, November 11 to race in the NCAA Regional Championships.
